I am pretty excited for the changes coming this year. Carl Crawford in center field and AG playing first or DH or wherever we can put him. Oh, right I am also pumped for the in-laws to be moving in and what change long nights of video games that will bring. Cora is wrapping up the 2nd year of school and of course continues to KNOW everything. Mia also continues to outgrow her own skin and brain...the CEO of the family I think. But the sarcastic and own agenda type of CEO. She is entertaining though. Nolan is running around the house as a 1 year old...yeah..running. What is happening. Anna and I continue to find new things about each other and continue to find ways to pursue and respond to each other. I love what God does in our marriage.

We are days away from our trip west. Was hoping for a crisp spring and outdoor activities...now there is still like 90 inches of snow on the ground and in fact...they had a foot yesterday. Maybe we should cancel and sit outside on our deck and listen to the Red Sox season opener. Hope mom is reading this!

Most of the time I don't have a clue what to put on here. My wife makes it easy with the photos because she has been slaying that camera lately and I can't help but carry those over to here. So what next? Matching a photo, look, expression or story with the words on this spot can be at times...tough.

I have been super admired by the way the Japanese have handed their devastating past few days of destruction. I don't think I have ever seen a country so united and so UN-selfish in my life. We as Americans should be ashamed at the way our citizens reacted during Katrina compared to what their citizens are doing. Leaving water on the shelf for the next person, vendors giving away free food and drink to the victims and salvage crews, stores dropping prices so those with little or no money can find away to afford them.

Then take us...hurricane brings in knee deep water to one of our most famous cities and with in minutes people are looting stores and taking what they can because the world is ending....

I can only pray that if anything of that magnitude happens here... we will remember how a country thatwe once flat out destoryed at one point handled their crisis and look to them as an example.

But I don't have a lot of faith that we will. Instead We have millionaires being paid to play football, by choice, and comparing it to "modern day slavery" abnd baseball players demanding to get paid $300 million dollars to swing a bat. Yeah I think they deserved to get paid, someone will pay them...but would they give even a penny to a town in need when that time comes?

Whatever, I should work today but I work today knowing that people in Japan are crushing this tragedy with an honor and pride I hope my kids...despite their expressions...can show to those around them in all that they do and in all their trials and tribulations.

Until then...it is indeed MY FAVORITE SHIRT

early starts

The whole family was up and rolling by 0607 today. It is a lot more fun waking the kids up with a sweet settle revenge then it is when they pull themselves up to our bed on a Saturday at the for mentioned time. The epic adventures of one car have begun with a family carpools to work and school. It is fun though starting your day with your family and I am realizing even better ending it with them in the car. It is nice to get that drive to decompress with the wife rather then come home to a chaotic atmosphere.

Tomorrow will be interesting.

Of course I do relive the same question from Mia everyday..."Dad, do you have to work tomorrow?" She means today. "Yes Mia I do." followed by, "Why, you work today and tomorrow and all the time." God forbid I have to deploy in the next few years.

Well, off to start the day. But I wanted to let me wife know that she is awesome and her support drives the train...or odyssey if you will.

So yesterday I learned that when your daughter is tied to your dog that it is NOT a good idea to throw a ball for your dog to fetch. Look, I am just saying...that would have been a 10,000 dollar winner on AFV and a few nights on the couch I suppose. Regardless she was a good sport about it and thankfully it happened fast enough that only the mark bares a reminder of it.
Of course our other daughter is the perfect height now for walking into things. Door knobs, chairs, tables. I for the life of me can't figure out why she doesn't look where she is going but when her nose met the corner of the table yesterday I thought the world was ending.
Let's not forget about my son, just days away from a year and minutes away from walking aimlessly through his days. You think you can get more accomplished with the walker but now your guard and awareness has to be more keen.

I learned this morning that a husband is to "...love his wife as his own body. He who loves his wife loves himself." Ephesians 5:28

I found this interesting in the fact of its direct meaning in the Word. It goes on to say that "...because no man has ever hated his body but he feeds it and takes care of it..." But if you aren't taking care of body does this mean your love is not the same for your wife? Or if you are to focused on the love of your body does the love for your wife suffer? Can go either way on the viewpoints here but I do know that I love my wife and my belly may not be a six pack anymore but the love for my wife is greater then any work out I could muster together. Plus, she cooks and feeds me...so really by me taking care of my body I am doing so through my wife which means she is loving herself through the care of my body.

Once again...women run everything and we mere pawns...but I love it!

Anna sure has been tearing up these photos lately. Amazing how in a few years we all carry our world, literally, in our pockets when it comes to our phones. It is a watch, calculator, photo album, address book, recipe book.... But the one thing I still think people give funny looks for is when people use their phone in church. But who are we to judge the intent behind that use anymore? I currently use mine as well as Anna as our bible in church. Seems some think that is rude or wrong. why? A bible is a bible...does it matter in what form it is being used? Or what if I use it to take notes or look up a reference? I see no harm in this as long as you don't use it as a distraction Maybe I should take the ear piece out and listen more.

few things in life bring as much joy as the a child's heart. the pure innocence of a look, a smile, tear, and laugh. nothing compares to the energy and emotional satisfaction that comes from such a tiny thing. But in reality that tiny person carries more genuiness then any of us can imagine. Sometimes the word of a littler person can make us feel like the biggest thing on the earth and in the very next sentence destroy your internal fortitude.

Regardless, for the time being it is tough to not love those two and I can only imagine where their thoughts and love are currently going at that moment.

Selective listening can crush someone. It can praise someone. It can captivate a person. It is interesting how we so closely pay attention to Opening Day on the radio, tune in for the military staging in the middle east, or shhsshh those in the room to hear a tv program. But why do we tune out with out even noticing when our loved ones turn to our ears? Look, not something I am proud of but I also know that we all do it. It is amazing what your hear when you just turn your deaf ear...on. Like when you hear "Go do" by Jonsi you stop what you are doing and turn it up. Well, we need to start turning up our kids and our spouses.

Oh, and spouses...it wouldn't hurt for you to hear every once in awhile especially when the first pitch is thrown out! Day two of the ticker has started

Cora had her first day of ski lessons today. I was impressed, with her the instructors...all of it. The cadets run the program and they couldn't be more respectful and polite to these kids. However you could definitely tell all Cora wanted to do was get on the chair lift and point the "french fries" down the mountain. Who likes "pizza" anyway!

So Heather's baby was born, Ellie Joy Perkins, and Anna and Mia will be heading home in the very near furture. Colefuzz is driving with them and what a blessing that is. However, as much as I can't wait to see my amazing selfless wife and growing Mia...part of me wishes it was just a little longer. Why? Because Cora and I continue to bond on a level we have never been through before. We are learning each other, understanding, respecting, and honoring each other in love never experienced before. I love where God has brought us and where He keeps taking us. With that said, I can't wait to wrap up my beautiful amazing wife and kiss on my little girl. Be safe and come home soon you two!

Cora was huuularious today coming home from school. I went to meet her at school so I could go inside and help her find her mitten she "lost" there last week. So I go into the school which to me is always slightly frightening. I have to push the little "talk to me" button and the scretary asks me what I want and I simply tell her I want to look through the 'lost and found' and I am here to get Cora Hahn. "Ok, come on in" she says. Then I ask if she needs me to sign in or anything and she says nope go ahead. Wow, and this is a DOD school too. Anyway...

Walking home

"Hey Cora how was your day?"

"It was good, my shoulder almost fell off though?"

"It really hurts, i almost ripped it right off."

Tonight while making pizza Cora insisted on moving the cheese out to the edge and doubling the sauce because she didn't want to have any crust. While eating the pizza she said,

"See Daddy this is why we put more sauce on it."

"Uh...ok, why is that?"

"Because it is more squishy, sweet, and chewy and it doesn't hurt my wiggly tooth."

"Oh right, i knew that."

"Oh dad, no you didn't."

She was right. I had no idea.

It is a good thing she wants to be a Vet when she grows up and take care of all kinds of animals. But if that doesn't work out she said she was fine working at McDonalds too. Yeah I too could see the worlds apart but her little heart was as happy as could be!

So I asked Cora today what her favorite place was on our vacations and she said, "Mall of America." Lord help us all as a 6 year old she h....oh man, she is 6.5 years old that is practically 7 which means she is almost going to college. I can't stand it and I dont want to talk about it anymore. However, she did say she wanted to go back to New York City. Maybe, just maybe over the next two weeks dad will call in sick, tell the school nurse Cora has a fever and we will do the city Ferris Bueller style. Just Dad and Daughter.

So today I happened to learn something new from Cora and actually turned out to be very entertaining. Since Anna is gone with Mia, she bet me a dollar to learn something new from Cora each day she is gone that I don't know. An infamous dollar bet originating back the days of the Poker Shack and Man Room. Started all with a frisbee to the head of passing pay coed by Aaron Forrester, and now we are here.

So she has been coming to my work after school and doing homework and drawing and writing stories in my office while I finish out my day. It is awesome having "take your daughter to work day" every day. Truly a blessing. Well today I was being recognized with an award from the Hospital Commander and so I was gone for a bit and Cora was hanging out with Neomie, the ER doctor, my boss. They got into the discussion of whether or not Cora likes eggs. And it went something like this....

"I do like eggs but not the scrambled ones."

"Really? Why not?"

"Well, I do but they are too gooey and runny."

"Oh, you mean you don't like sunny side up?"

"What no...wait, what is that?"

"Well lets look at google images and to see OK Cora?"

"OK"

"See right there, I don't like that, but I love those."

"Oh so you do love scrambled eggs?"

"Yeah, and tonight we are having steak and eggs that daddy is cooking."

Well, needless to say, we went to the PX to buy her a new brush because her's had seen better days, and as we were leaving I hear...

"daddy, can we go over there?"

and my response was,

"I will have a number 6 and a kids hamburger meal with a slushy please."

It is so much fun spending time with my older daughter. Thanking God for the opportunity to bond with her deeper and learn more and more about her heart.

So tonight over dinner, of which Cora passed on the kids burger, kids mac and cheese, kids lasagna, and kids hot dog and ordered a "Petite Sirloin", we discussed Cora's last meal. I asked if she was on a plane that crashed on an island like, "Lost", and she was going to get to order one last meal on the plane what would it be? She of course answered "STEAK". I could not get her to change her mind, almost swayed it with Lobster but she wanted...

Elevators

i hate them. what else do you want me to say about it. i work in a small hospital. maybe a 100 yards long and 4 stories. that is all. 4 lousy stories. remember, i am in the military. keep that in mind as you read. I only take the elevator when I am going from the first floor to the 4th floor. even then...i shouldn't. regardless, i do and yes, I take it down from the 4th floor to the 1st floor. perhaps even lazier. until recently.... two days in a row i got in the elevator to ride down from 4 to 1. on multiple occasions individuals got on and rode the elevator down one floor. yes, ONE FLOOR. we are talking 12 steps. the stair case, all three of them or easily accessible. they don't hide from you. but one floor. it struck a nerve when i stopped at floor 2, after stopping at 3 for someone to get on and ride down to floor 1. oh yes, this person...one of my combat airborne medics. seriously? no really, seriously? so tomorrow he is going to ride the elevator for a good portion of the morning acting as the elevator guy, "what floor?" and push buttons. and when they ask why, he will tell them, "because i am lazy?" one floor, are we really that lazy now?

It is like you are standing on that remote railroad track, high in the Rockies over a ravine that drops into a quarry's lagoon of sort and off in the distance you hear it. The only problem is that in reality, and currently at real time...it is only meters away. Muffled by the rising rocks you don't realize that the engine is on top of you and there is only one way to...well...only one option.

You leap.

What comes next? I have no idea. I do, that passion to write, the thoughts of sharing daily stories, old times, fun moments, sad ones, scary ones, real ones, and others that I don't even like bringing up from the depths. But sitting down and putting to paper, screen, or rather blog at this point is harder then you might imagine. Sometimes it is time, other times it is shear fear on the ability to transcribe what rumbles through the grey matter. There are times where I don't remember putting the baby down for a nap. Anna's frustration grows with each conversation she has to repeat because there is a... ravine where the conversation took place. She insists it is selective listening, perhaps at times she is right and for that honee, I am sorry. But more often then not I don't hear the locomotive approaching and before you know it I have lept. As I fall I see the faces, the bodies, the stories of all those I knew that have been lost, or of those black bags I have zipped closed. Why is it I never forget the shear look of panic over my battle buddies face, or the appearance of all hope lost as we fight to stop the bleeding of a fellow "brother"? Other times I am over taken by the laughter following a rocket attack and then sometimes the sound of Mia's first cry or the excitement and genuine love shown by Cora as she bounded down the stairs upon my return. Leaping from the 4th stair, simply saying, "Daaadddyyy". I don't know, I really don't know...

I have been sitting here thinking for some time that perhaps it is time to open this back up, keep updated pics of the girls on here, local shots, and other pictures floating around. But even more than that I have thought writing again. I wouldn't ever call my self a Tom Sawyer...errr...I mean Mark Twain but it is something I enjoy doing. So maybe the fingers need to cruise over the buttons once again...

A lot goes on here in the Hahn House, the girls have a new story every day, sometimes it changes with the hours, Anna keeps me on my toes in more ways then one...and most of those you don't get hear about. Love you lady wife. Not sure what that was. There can always be anonymous work stories, wait...well you know what I mean. I am diving into the Word once again and one way to keep myself accountable is to put my thoughts down. I think I should.

One of the biggest things I am contemplating again is writing a book. I have two deployments in Iraq, an amazing family, a pretty solid yet normal life story, and I think I might consider writing a book on it. I mean who wouldn't want to read about a Combat Male Nurse Veteran in West Point? An old professor who has written a couple of literary works has offered help. My good friend Riley has published a book of photography from our experience across the pond with the assistance of a peer and perhaps it is time to get some of my thoughts, stories, dreams, nightmares, day-mares, and other clouds of thought on paper. But then again, it terrifies me at times.

Regardless, I sit her on the couch full of thought, time for bed, the beautiful wife is upstairs reading...and I think it just might be time. So I grab the flint, pieces of wood and start banging the rocks together looking for a spark. Stick around, it just might get warm. Ok, that was horrible, I apologize for that...never to happen again!

Mia Celie Hahn's First Birthday

Yesteday, 23 OCT 2008 God blessed us one year ago with an amazing daughter. She has truly been the blessing that every parent prays for. She is a gem, beautiful and has a personality that goes unmeasured. One of the things I remember most, other then the cry of Mia, was the strength, courage, and personal drive Anna possessed that night. Truly remarkable, she is my role model, and my drive. I love my girls and already they are growing up to fast.

Mia has a birthday in a week. Work is creeping up with interesting stuff. What else...not to much to report. Be praying for our house in Alaska. We need to find renters soon so be praying that God will bless us with good people and in a timely fashion. Of course, His time is not our time and our time is not His time. So you never know. We had some interesting conversations recently on Heaven. Pretty cool. So I have not been good at all in trying to keep this thing updated since I returned. I officially take over the job this coming Friday. The past few weeks have been spent getting the house in order, learning the lay of the land, figuring out the job, and just spending time with the Family. So I will do my best to keep this thing going because as the leaves are changing so are so many things. Mia, turns 1 in just a few days, Cora is learning more at school then I did in 12 years of school, Faith gets her first bath tub bath, I am learning that 2 year olds will drink Air Wick Spring Rain air freshner because it smells good and stinks up your whole ER, and Anna walks a thousand miles a day taking the kids to and from school, dance, ice skating and soccer. Cora scored her first goal last week in soccer and was basically "recruited" for ice hockey already. Crazy. Will start keeping you all in the loop now that things are settling down and a routine is taking effect. Love you guys!

First of all, I am in San Antonio terribly lonesome with out my girls. I am going through some courses right now for some advanced officer training basically. The kick is, I have been doing this stuff the last two years in Alaska...guess I get to learn how to do it right now.

Anna is in Cape Cod with her family on vacation for this week. On the 19th they return to West Point and Lord willing move into our house on the 21st. You could all be praying for that transition. Keep us all in your prayers and enjoy the pics! Love you all!

After leaving my sisters in KY (pictures to come later) we went west to St. Louis and picked up my car. It was the closest place to ship to Minnesota so me and Dan could drive to Texas in a couple of weeks. Anyway, after scooping that up we went north to Wisconsin to see Anna's friend Heidi. Our friends the Forresters in Virginia have two sons, Nash (or Dash according to Cora) and Ethan. Cora seemed to spend most of her time running those two into the ground, or at least trying too. One day Aaron, their dad, took the kids to some monster Burger King play land followed by the Virginia Tech duck pond. We are here. We got here on Sunday evening after driving straight through from Minnesota. We are almost at 6000 total miles driven this summer. The most expensive we have paid for gas was almost 7 dollars a gallon in Canada and the cheapest was around...3.40 or I think. Anyway, "The Point" is beautiful. Truly is tucked away in some of God's greatest work. We already love the surrounding communities and look forward to what this week brings our family. Be praying that God provides a good home for us with enough room for you all to come and visit when you can. Love you all, thanks for your prayers and many many more pictures to come.

This is the most recent post but be sure to scroll down and check out some of the older ones that are also new. I had to play catch up while in Minnesota because we didn't have a good internet connection while in the mountains. Fairmont as been a lot of fun. Very relaxing. We got in at about 0530 in the morning and slept for a couple of hours before hanging out with the family. Anna's brothers where in town. We had some great steak and played some poker. Anna and Mimi won the first game and the two brothers, Ryan and Nathan won the second. Since then we have spent time roaming around Fairmont, watching the girls play, and just hanging out. It has been a good time. Once I get the pics from Ryan we will be sure to add them to the blog..hint hint! Anyway, yesterday Cora had a suprise visitor...Mychal L. was in town and stopped by to visit for awhile. It was a good thing to see a familar Alaskan face! Stay tuned!

Final Montana Pics

Our time in Montana was a lot of fun. There was a lot of firsts and a lot of odd times there. We really enjoyed it. Mom and Dad hooked up with us one more time before we left the state and we snapped a final family picture. We are looking forward to coming back in the fall to do some hunting and to see mom and dad's new place all fixed up and done! Should be a blast. On to Minnesota for a brief stop with Anna's family before we continue East to West Point, Virginia, and my sisters before returning to Minnesota for the rest of our vacation. 12 hours through the night from Billings Montana to Fairmont Minnesota...what is our problem!

Trail Ride

Cora and Mia had their first Trail ride down at camp too. We went on about an hour ride through the foothills of the Beartooth Mountains. It was a great day out for it, saw numerous deer and even a moose that we had to avoid. Horses and moose don't get along to well. Mia slept the whole time, mom talked the whole time, and Anna's horse never stepped foot on the trail. All in all, it was a good time! However getting on the horse with one arm and Mia on my chest was not the easiest thing to do. Enjoy the Video!

Beartooth Mountains

The next stop on our journey was down to Beartooth Mountain Christian Ranch where I worked many summers growing up. It has always been a second home to me and so I wanted the new Hahn Family to appreciate it. We stayed with Marvin an Alison, took in the scenery, relaxed, road some horses, ATVs, went on walks and just chilled in the mountains. It was a lot of fun. Cora loved it, spent her days frolicing in the hills, climbing wood piles, playing in the creek and the pond, she jsut loved the outdoors. Faith too just ran like a free dog. It was a good stop.

Our last ride in the Turner area was through Black Coulee. I bet we covered over 50 miles or so and then Anna and I found our honeymoon cabin. What a place to retire in. Think we will buy it!

This was a picture that we had done for my mother for her birthday and Mother's Day. We just gave it to her while we were visiting my family. Needless to say she has not stopped crying over it. Thanks to Enigma Productions for making it happen.

Montana Bike "wind" Ride

We took our first family bike ride yesterday. After spending 2 hours putting together Mia's carriage and roll cage we were finally off. WE convinced Gma and Gpa to come with us. It was short on account of the wind up here, but still a blast. Cora enjoyed pedalling her way to victory and Mia just chilled with a booger face in the back as daddy blocked all the wind. It was fun no doubt about it.

Faith has continued to enjoy her time in Montana despite ripping the pads off her feet twice already. See, in Alaska she was spent most of her time indoors and at the park. However, here in Turner we have been running her on the 4wheelers, bike rides, back roads, and highways. Needless to say, her paw pads have been red...but she has been loving every minute of it becoming more and more a better dog each day. She is a lot of fun. Get this...Anna even likes her now!

By the way, if you are interested in some funny reads...my previous blog, "What The..." has some decent ones in there from over the years...starting at the begining of them. Just incase you are bored one day. Also, the "other blogs worth reading" really are worth it. Some with great photography, poems, story of adoption, life of Kris and Kate among others. You should cruise through them when given the opportunity.

Big Sky Country

Yesterday evening Anna and I took out the 4wheelers and drove around the Big Sky Country for a couple of hours. Stopped every so often to rid the countryside of its most annoying varmint and "field rat". I tell you what...Anna is scary good with a rifle and there is something definitely sexy about it. Must be the Montana redneck in me still. What can I say...my wife with a gun...wow! anyway, we really just enjoyed cruising around the prairie and taking in the openness of God's country. We will soon be leaving Turner and heading south to the Beartooth Mountains in south central Montana...and no, that isn't the ghetto. More to come!

Real Carrousel

Yesterday Cora got to ride her first horse. The horse belongs to the neighbors next door and they were just out giving it some exercise and we asked if Cora could ride her. The horse is actually a record breaking barrel racer for this area of Montana. The owner, a 7th grader, and one of dad's students took Cora on a little jaunt down the street. Even Mia was impressed with the large thing. Oh, just one more thing to do in Turner, Montana.
